The following are the five Nigerian artists with the most album entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

The fact that afrobeat and afrobeats are global phenomena that are gradually spreading to various parts of the world is undeniable. It is only natural for this to be reflected in international charts as well.

This is why we have compiled a list of the five Nigerian artists who have had the most albums debut on the prestigious Billboard World Albums Chart.

1. Fela

Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the father of afrobeat, is the Nigerian artist with the most album entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart, with a total of eight albums. The late singer and performer made his chart debut with ‘ODOO,’ which debuted on December 1, 1990; the album peaked at number 13 and stayed on the chart for 7 weeks.

‘The Best Of The Black President,’ his second album on the chart, debuted on December 5, 2009. It reached number three and remained on the charts for 25 weeks.

‘Vinyl Box Set #1’ was his third album to chart, debuting on the 19th of February 2011, peaking at number 14, and remaining on the chart for one week.

‘Live In Detroit 1986’ was Fela’s fourth album to debut on the Billboard World Albums Chart on May 26, 2012. It peaked at number nine and stayed on the charts for one week.

Fela: The Best Of The Black President 2′ was his fifth album to debut on the chart, on March 2, 2013. It peaked at number eight and stayed on the chart for one week.

‘Finding Fela (Soundtrack)’ was Fela’s sixth album to debut on the chart on August 23, 2013, peaking at number 9 and remaining on the chart for one week.

‘Fela: Vinyl Box Set 4 Compiled By Erykah Badu’ was the seventh album to debut on the Billboard World Albums Chart on January 3, 2018. It peaked at number 11 and stayed there for two weeks.

Fela Kuti’s eighth album, ‘Open & Close,’ debuted on the chart on June 26th, 2021. It peaked at number seven and was only on the charts for one week.

2. Femi Kuti

The legendary Femi Kuti is ranked second among Nigerian artists with the most album entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart. He made his chart debut with the album Fight To Win,’ which debuted on November 3rd, 2001; it peaked at number 10 and spent 6 weeks on the chart.

He made his second chart appearance with ‘Africa For Africa,’ which debuted on April 30th, 2011; the album peaked at number 12 and spent a total of three weeks on the chart.

Femi Kuti’s third album on the chart, ‘No Place For My Dream,’ debuted on July 13th, 2013. It went on to peak at number seven and spent two weeks on the chart.

3. Davido

Davido, the 30BG boss, is ranked second on the list of Nigerian artists with the most album entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart, with three albums. On the 5th of November 2016, Davido made his chart debut with his album, ‘Son Of Mercy (EP),’ which peaked at number 4 and stayed on the chart for one week.

‘A Good Time,’ his second album on the chart, debuted on the 7th of December, 2019. His album eventually peaked at number six and spent a total of 25 weeks on the charts.

‘A Better Time,’ his third album on the chart, debuted on November 28th, 2020; it went on to peak at Number 4 and stayed on the chart for two weeks.

4. Burna Boy

Burna Boy is also tied for fourth place among Nigerian artists with the most album entries on the Billboard World Album Chart, with two albums. The Grammy Award-winning artist made his chart debut on August 3rd, 2019 with his album African Giant.’ It peaked at number six and remained at the top of the charts for 36 weeks.

On the 29th of August 2020, Burna Boy held a spot on the chart with his album ‘Twice As Tall,’ which peaked at number one and spent a total of 12 weeks on the chart.

5. Wizkid

With only two albums, Wizkid ranks fourth among Nigerian artists with the most album entries on the Billboard World Albums Chart. On August 5, 2017, Wizkid made his chart debut with his album ‘Sounds From The Other Side.’ The album peaked at number two and stayed on the charts for four weeks.

Wizkid’s massive hit album ‘Made In Lagos’ is his second album on the chart, making its official debut on November 14th, 2022. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard World Albums Chart and is the longest-charting African album with a total of 83 weeks and counting.
