Sadio Mane, the captain of Senegal’s men’s football team, has officially joined Bayern Munich.
On Monday, June 20th, 2022, the news was confirmed on Bayern Munich’s official website. The Bavarian paid €32 million for the former Liverpool player, who is expected to stay at the club until the summer of 2025. The Liverpool club is also expected to receive add-ons, bringing the total deal to €40 million.
The Senegalese expressed his delight at his transfer to the Bundesliga club, claiming that the move to Bayern is a necessary challenge for him.
I am really happy to finally be at FC Bayern in Munich. We spoke a lot and I felt a big interest in this great club right from the beginning, so for me, there were no doubts. It’s the right time for this challenge. I want to achieve a lot with this club, in Europe too. During my time in Salzburg, I watched a lot of Bayern games – I really like this club.
Mane told some of his Liverpool teammates after the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday, May 28th, 2022 in Paris. During his time at the club, the Senegalese was an important part of the Reds’ success.
He made 120 goals and 30 assists during his 269 games for the Anfield club. He won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup.
Bayern Munich supporters will be hoping that Mane can maintain his form from his time at Liverpool.
