We reminisce about megastar Davido’s debut at the iconic 02 arena in this list and take a look at the musicians and friends who had to share the stage with him in anticipation of his show.
Davido had walked the talk, dancing and singing it even by headlining at the world’s busiest music arena and shutting it down in front of a 20,000-strong crowd at London’s 02 Arena on the 27th of January, 2019.
He’d previously stated that he was going to do exactly that, saying after Wizkid’s first headline show at the 02 in 2018, “My brother did it, I’m about to do it too.”
The 30BG president, Davido, is set to return to the 02 Arena on March 5th, 2022, as a Nigerian megastar and crowd-rouser. In preparation for his upcoming show, we look back at his previous performance at the iconic center and look at the musicians and friends who shared the stage with him.
The show began with British DJ Tim Westwood and DMW’s own ECool spinning bangers from the decks to keep the crowd pumped. Following that, members of Davido’s DMW as well as other artists performed to keep the crowd going.
Following that, British actor Idris Elba took the stage to introduce the man of the night, whom he correctly described as one of Africa’s biggest acts.
To the delight of the crowd, Davido appeared atop a suspended platform and immediately launched into a rendition of Aye, accompanied by The Compozers, who helped elevate the ballad.
Davido went on to perform for a long time, and during the intermission, he invited some friends to join him on stage.
The musicians who performed at Davido’s 02 Arena show in 2019 are listed below.
Davido had previously appeared on Popcaan‘s Dun Rich, a dancehall heavyweight. So the singer was at the 02 Arena, performing parts of his Dun Rich with Davido before ramping up the energy with a performance of his smash hit Very Special.
The former DMW favorite was on hand to help Davido close out the show, making an appearance near the end after Davido’s interlude, which signaled the start of the second half of the show. Mayorkun had performed songs such as Che Che, Mama, and Bobo, among others.
The DMW rapper had been making waves in the late 2010s with a couple of well-received tracks, so it was only fitting that he represented his DMW family and shut down the show for his boss. Dremo had performed Kpa, a song featuring Davido, to a sold-out crowd at the 02 Arena.
Although the London-based musician is still a rising star, the OBO made room in his schedule for him and had him perform his then-hit Jowabayi, which features Naira Marley, Mystro, and CDQ and delighted the Londoners and Lagosians in the audience.
5. May D
May D and Davido collaborated on the former’s Lowo Lowo, but the two have a history, as the singer performed the Chop My Money remix at the 02 to an ecstatic crowd who sang along word for word.
The DMW star was a crowd favorite throughout the evening, performing hits like ECool’s 4You and Aje alongside Yonda and Davido himself at the 02 arena show. He then performed Amaka, a collaboration with 2Baba, to a standing ovation.
Say Baba by CDQ had received a lot of attention in 2018, so the rapper gave an energetic performance of the song to the crowd.
8. Victor AD
Victor AD couldn’t have had Davido on a track at a better time, as the singer who’d premiered his single with Davido had joined him on stage at the 02 Arena, performing a moving rendition of his hit song, Wetin We Gain, for the crowd.
