How do you protect yourself from snake bites in the toilet?
Snakes can get into your toilet (slate)

A naval officer, Ogah Bercy, died on Monday, November 22, 2021, in Abuja after being attacked by a snake in her toilet. And this is not an isolated case.
This year alone, there have been several reports of snake bites while using the toilet.

Snakes can get into your toilet from the septic tanks, ventilation pipes, sewers, and drains.

Contrary to popular belief, your toilet seat is just a few meters away from the sewers; and it does not only snake that stays there but lizards, worms, and rats too.
Sometimes, it is the search for these other animals that brings a snake to the surface of your toilet.

So, how do you protect yourself from these unruly visitors?

  1. Use mesh or wire covering to block pipes, drains, and any openings in your toilet.
  2. Fumigate your sewage system every six months.
  3. Always cover your septic tanks and slabs. Leaving them open is never a good idea.
  4. Repair all broken sewage pipes. A broken pipe is an invitation to rats and other animals.
  5. Always check your toilet before you sit on it. Who knows? You might see a large snake staring back at you.
